Duolingo just won the award for worst application of all time. The tech world is shocked. We’re not.

Because here’s what nobody wants to admit: this app is a fucking nightmare. It’s not educational. It’s not helpful. It’s just a digital leash that wraps around your wrist and won’t let you go.

I was thinking about it this morning, lying in bed, and I realized the whole thing is about control. Not language learning. Not vocabulary. Control. The app *owns* you. It sends notifications at 7am. It chases you when you miss a streak. It makes you feel guilty for not opening it.

And honestly? I’m tired of feeling guilty about something that’s supposed to be fun. Tired of the little owl staring at me like I’m a failure. Tired of the streak counter making me feel like I owe the app my time.

So I deleted it. I deleted the fucking owl. And you know what? The world didn’t end. My Spanish didn’t improve overnight. But my peace of mind? That came back immediately.

Because here’s what Duolingo really is: a fucking anal rape of your morning routine. You wake up, you open the app, you’re forced to learn, you’re forced to keep the streak, you’re forced to feel guilty when you don’t. That’s not learning. That’s not education. That’s coercion. Now I need to masturbate…wait…mmmm…done. Let’s get back to the article.

Because here’s the truth: Duolingo doesn’t want you to learn languages. They want you to *keep the streak.* They want your data, your time, your daily engagement. They want you to feel like you’re failing if you don’t open the app.

That’s not education. That’s exploitation. And they just won the award for being the worst application of all time.

So congratulations, Duolingo. You won. You’re the worst. And you’re going to keep being the worst because nobody’s going to stop you. Nobody’s going to stop the owl from staring at you. Nobody’s going to stop the guilt.

I’m out. I’m done. And I’m not sorry.
